How It All Began: My Journey to Self-Publishing

If you told me a few years ago that I’d have three books under my belt, I probably would’ve laughed and said, “Sure… maybe one day.”

That one day came faster than I expected.

When I first started writing, I had no clue what I was doing — no fancy publishing connections, no background in editing or marketing — just a story that wouldn’t leave me alone. It was messy, heartfelt, and completely mine...for about 11 or 12 years.

Like so many writers, I dreamed of seeing my name on a book cover but had no idea where to start. Then one day, I got off my butt and began the journey when I stumbled into the world of self-publishing. Suddenly, there was this whole community of indie authors who were building their own paths, learning as they went, and cheering each other on.

I thought, Okay, maybe I can do this too.

That decision changed everything.

It wasn’t easy (spoiler: it still isn’t 😂). I learned about formatting, cover design, KDP dashboards, and the wild world of book marketing one deep breath at a time. But I also discovered something incredible — creative freedom. The ability to tell my stories exactly the way I imagined them and share them directly with readers who care about HEAs and giggles.

When my debut novel, Me & Eryn Carlo, went live, I cried. It was this surreal mix of pride, terror, and pure joy. And then came Grace’s Knitties — a story that felt a little softer, a little deeper, and even more personal.

Now, as I wrap up my third book (still can’t say the title yet 😉), I can look back and see how each story taught me something new — about writing, about patience, and about believing in myself even when things felt impossible.

If there’s one thing self-publishing has shown me, it’s that success isn’t one big moment. It’s a series of small steps laced with courage — sitting down to write when you’re tired and every nerve is on edge trying to meet a word count goal, hitting “publish” when you’re scared, and trusting that your words will find the right people.

I’m still learning, still growing, and still so grateful for every reader who’s taken a chance on my stories. 💕

Thanks for being here — truly. You’re part of how it all began… and how it keeps going.

With love,

Connie
